I've been interested in building my own tiny house for years. After living aboard a small sailboat for 6 months, I realized that I COULD live with less, and I love the freedom that it affords. Ever since then, I've been waiting for the opportunity to make this dream a reality.
I was seriously looking into to building a tiny house on wheels and talked to my friend, Jonathan, about joining me to inspect a trailer. We realized that we had a common interest, Jonathan was also building a tiny house - out of a shipping container! I checked out his project and before long I was convinced that a shipping container was the way to go.
Jonathan has a few shipping containers on his land outside of Houston, TX and we decided that I would use his 40 ft high-cube storage container as my new home.
I won't have the opportunity to detail the process of container selection, delivery, and set-up since the container is already in place. I may get Jonathan to offer his experience and I'll write a post about it at a later date for those that are interested.
The current plan is to move the container over about 10 ft and put it up on foundation blocks to get it off the ground.
I won't be implementing a permanent, beefy foundation solution because I don't intend to leave the container on Jonathan's land for more than a few years. I'll explain those details in a later post.
Next step is emptying the container!
